Our Commitment
Daily-Update is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors.
We respect privacy above commercial gain and act responsibly.
Individual Information
Daily-Update gathers “site usage” information. This information is not individualized, but rather used to generate statistics. The statistics are used to improve our site and to inform advertisers or prospective advertisers. The overall number of visitors or hits per month may also be made public.
Individually identifiable information will not be released without that individual’s prior consent, except
(a) to comply with applicable laws and lawful government requests; or
(b) to protect Daily-Update or users of our service.
Contact will only be made either as a one-off introduction of our range or where the visitors have requested or approved such contact.
The minimum information required to complete financial transactions, including standard cookies required for shopping carts, may be gathered. This information will not be used for any other purpose than to facilitate the transactions. Daily-Update will refrain from using such information to generate marketing surveys, including even internal surveys, and we will not sell or knowingly forward such information.
Others
Daily-Update does not control all HTML served on its Web site. We provide links to other companies that will have different privacy policies and may generate cookies. We bear no responsibility for these privacy policies or cookies. We have no access to any information generated from the cookies of others. Cookies may be removed from your computer by referring to the “tools” feature of your browser, but please be aware that deleting cookies may cause stored information (such as in shopping carts or travel itineraries) to be lost. A better option may be to turn on the cookie alerts in your browser. You will then be alerted when a Web site tries to set a cookie and you can decide whether the cookie is worth receiving. Ethical Statement
Daily-Update is committed to the highest ethical standards. We conduct our business in a socially responsible manner. Management and employment practices are fair, non-discriminatory and encouraging. Daily-Update promotes activism and social justice in many ways, including through the selection of information that similarly-minded people and groups may be interested in, and through the support of community service advertising.
Apart from being an affiliate of Amazon.com (and our Amazon.com advertisements are clearly marked), we do not accept paid advertising or commissions for three main reasons: (a) because of the potential for the advertiser to be disreputable or irresponsible; (b) because it makes the Website less attractive; and (c) because it may conflict with editorial integrity (see below).
Editorial Integrity
Daily-Update is committed to the highest level of honesty in content. Besides adhering to standard measures of openness, we adopt two special measures that are unusual in Websites (because they are considered damaging to both profitability and position in the search engines):
Support of Charity
When you support this Website, you are directly benefiting worthy causes. Daily-Update Pty Ltd donates 15% of net profits to DU Charities, the non-profit charitable organization that is operated by the company. Whilst making this significant contribution, DailyUpdate ensures that our book prices remain very competitive.
The funds are directed to the following charities established and operated by Daily-Update:
DU Refuge. Funds are directed towards or held in trust for the accommodation and support of refugees and asylum-seekers pending a hearing by government or judiciary as to their status. Many refugees arrive in a country carrying a great deal of trauma, but with scarce resources. They often have no right or opportunity to work, and receive minimal government assistance. We mainly focus on helping refugees arriving in Australia.
Nell’s Special Treat. Many elderly people are struggling to care for their ill or disabled spouse at home. They may be hoping to avoid moving to a nursing home. There will hopefully be respite care services provided by the government, charities or private organizations, but our charity seeks to offer a little treat for the care-giver and, if appropriate, his or her spouse or another family member. Examples would be a magazine subscription for the care-giver, or a taxi and meal out for the care-giver and her daughter. This charity is named in memory of Nell Robinson, the grandmother of a Daily-Update director. This wonderful lady provided care for her beloved husband, Don, for years, and still somehow found the energy to cook, tend her roses and give her seven grandsons special treats.
